Beneath the Surface
This series of underwater pieces explores the relationship between diving deeper into the ocean and looking deeper within ourselves. Each piece captures a person encountered through freediving, and the stories, connections, and moments of self-discovery that emerge in the water.
Beneath the surface, the noise of everyday life begins to fall away. There is a different relationship with time, breath, and the self. What begins as a physical descent becomes an inward journey - one that asks us to confront our limits, find stillness, and discover parts of ourselves that often remain unexplored.
Rendered in acrylic on wooden board, these portraits are reflections of the people who have shaped my own journey beneath the surface. Each holds a different story, yet together they explore a shared experience: the possibility of finding ourselves by going deeper.
The Ones Who Lift
Acrylic on wooden board
This portrait reflects the quiet generosity of people who help us move beyond what we believe we are capable of. Encountered during my freediving journey, its subject offered guidance and encouragement without expectation, reminding me that growth often happens in the company of others. Beneath the surface, the friendship became as meaningful as the dive itself..

Becoming
Acrylic on wooden board
This portrait explores the uncertain space between who we have been and who we are becoming. Having crossed borders and entered a new chapter of life, its subject was navigating the difficult, often unfinished process of finding herself again. Freediving offered a space for exploration, where the unfamiliar could become an invitation to look inward and begin anew.

What We Pass On
Acrylic on wooden board
This portrait considers the quiet influence of those who make room for others to grow. Through his work teaching children to freedive, its subject embodies a belief in sharing knowledge, building confidence, and fostering an early connection with the water. His steady encouragement during my own training was a reminder that what we offer others can reach far beyond a single moment or dive.

Without Proving
Acrylic on wooden board
This portrait reflects a quieter kind of confidence - one that does not need to announce itself. Despite taking naturally to freediving, its subject approached the experience with humility, warmth, and an openness to learning. In her presence, I was reminded that rediscovery does not require performance or recognition. Sometimes, it is enough to enter the water, remain open, and allow yourself to begin again.

Between Breaths
Acrylic on wooden board
A reflection on the fleeting space between breaths - a moment of surrender, awareness, and connection with the water.
The Art of Enough
Acrylic on wooden board
This work is a reflection on the freedom of letting go of achievement. Through his approach to freediving, its subject taught me that the experience need not be measured by depth or duration, but by the stillness, awareness, and ease we carry through it. Sometimes, the most meaningful dive is the one that leaves us feeling whole rather than accomplished.
